New Delhi: Greenpeace India campaigner Priya Pillai on Friday termed her meeting with Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi as 'positive', and said that the latter assured that he is with her organisation in their struggle.

"A delegation of 17 organisations met Rahul Gandhi. It was a very nice and a positive meeting. He has agreed and shared some of the concerns we have raised: that NGOs being targeted and larger democratic space of this country and dissent has been shrinking," Pillai told a news agency.

"He is really concerned about the way all this is happening and he has assured us that he is with us in the fight and will definitely join the fight to save democracy," she added.

Pillai also stated the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has never entertained any of their requests to meet them.

"As Greenpeace, we have been writing to the MHA for a long time. But I am sorry to say that theMHA has never engaged with us, they never want to meet us. They have never met us formally or informally. We believe the assault is continuing on Greenpeace," she added.

The Congress Party welcomed Rahul Gandhi's moves of meeting all the delegations of NGOs, and said the Congress vice-president expressed his opinion of individual freedom.

"Rahul ji has met Priya Pillai, he had a discussion with her. Rahul ji has expressed his opinion that individual freedom is paramount. Congress party stands for individual freedom. Freedom provided by the

Constitution cannot be curtailed or encroached upon by anyone," said Congress leader PC Chacko

However, the Bharatiya Janata Party mocked Rahul Gandhi's move, saying that the Congress vice president is just trying to create media hype.
