Rahul Gandhi would fulfil Mahatma Gandhi's dream of 'Congress-mukt Bharat': Nitin Gadkari

New Delhi: With Congress performing very badly in the Assembly elections in West Bengal, Kerala, Assam and Tamil Nadu, Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Nitiin Gadkari on Thursday took a dig at Rahul Gandhi.

Taking a dig at the Gandhi scion, Gadkari said, “Mahatma Gandhi's dream of Congress Mukt Bharat will be fulfilled under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi.”

Commenting on the Assembly Election Results, the BJP leader credited party's good performance to PM Narendra Modi's leadership.

“The developmental work done under PM's leadership has aroused a hope among people and this is the reason why BJP has been successful,” Gadkari asserted.

West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress and Tamil Nadu's ruling AIADMK were set to retain power on Thursday as the BJP was on the road to victory in Assam and the Left made a comeback in Kerala.

With poll trends showing a rout for Congress in party-ruled Assam and Kerala and no major gains in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, Rahul Gandhi said the party will work harder till it wins the confidence and trust of people.

"We accept the verdict of people with humility. My best wishes to the parties that have won the elections,” he said.
