Panaji: Goa Health Minister Francis D'Souza today said that media reports on Medical Council of India (MCI) cutting down seats in medical colleges in the state may have serious implications on students.
"The recent media reports on number of seats for MBBS course being cropped up from 150 to 100 by MCI may create fear among students who are preparing for years," D'Souza said today.
"This lead to frustration" and students may resort to taking extreme steps, he said at the foundation stone laying ceremony of a rural health and training centre at Mandur village near here.
Opposition Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo had recently addressed a press conference announcing that MCI has reduced the number of MBBS seats.
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, who was also present on the occasion, however, said the Opposition was trying to create issues out of nothing and added that the MCI has given approval to increase the seats from 100 to 150 and every year the NoC has been reissued.
