Thiruvananthapuram: A day after Congress leader Shashi Tharoor attacked the media accusing it of being 'self-appointed liars and scum', the Thiruvananthapuram MP on Thursday clarified that he had hit out at a particular news channel and not the entire media fraternity.
Tharoor today took to Twitter account to clear the air regarding his comments:
Amused to see my comment to the 1 channel that stalked me at home &at Tvm airport is being twisted as an attack on all media. Taking refuge?
— Shashi Tharoor (@ShashiTharoor) May 21, 2015
Let's be clear: only 1 channel ran a witch-hunt yesterday all evening, lied&distorted facts, aired innuendo, ran a survey on purported guilt

It suits gutter journalists 2 pretend I attacked their entire fraternity.I attacked only those who put exploitation of tragedy above justice

While speaking to the mediapersons on Wednesday Tharoor said, "I'll speak to the police not to self-appointed liars and scum", when asked why his aides were not speaking the truth in the case relating to the mysterious death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar.
He was asked the question in the context of a Delhi court yesterday allowing the police to conduct a lie-detector test on three "suspects" in the case.
The three suspects are Tharoor's domestic help Narain Singh, driver Bajrangi and friend Sanjay Dewan.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Digvijay Singh came to defence of his party colleague saying that "from day one Shashi Tharoor has been pleading for a fair and impartial investigation. Why should anyone try to bias a fair investigation?"
The Congress leader expressed his views on Twitter.
Sunanda case is being investigated by Police. Shouldn't they be allowed to investigate without any biased Media Trial by some channels ?

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is probing the case. Sunanda's husband and former UPA minister Shashi Tharoor has been questioned thrice in this case so far. In January this year, the SIT had claimed that Sunanda Pushkar was poisoned, and registered a murder case against unknown persons.
52-year-old Sunanda was found dead in her suite at a five star hotel in south Delhi on the night of January 17, 2014, a day after she was involved in a spat with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar on microblogging website Twitter over the latter's alleged affair with Tharoor.
