New Delhi: Author Katherine Abraham, whose name figured during the investigation into the mysterious death of Sunanda Pushkar, issued a statement on Friday putting forth her stance on the entire controversy, Shashi Tharoor and the ongoing media trial:
"In the last few days, the media has been playing out a concocted and false statement about me and displaying my pictures all over their television screens as a Person of Interest in the Sunanda Pushkar Tharoor death probe. I have no idea from where the Indian media is getting its (mis)- information. The allegations levelled against me are baseless. I have been insulted on Social Media, and being portrayed as a young woman of an unworthy character. The truth is that various sections of the media have been desperately trying to contact me to get a “Sound byte” or at least a comment on their theories to which I have consistently refused.
The reason I have maintained my silence for the past few days is because as a student of law I believe it is extremely important that an independent investigation is absolutely essential to bring out the “Whole Truth” rather than the carefully edited lies of the media. However, yesterday afternoon a certain Ms. Urvashi Khona and her cameraman reached my residence and despite my parents’ request that they will not go on record till such time as an Investigation occurs, they slyly recorded what my father had to say with the help of a hidden camera. She phoned me a few minutes later and when I refused to say anything, she recorded the conversation without my consent and played it on their channel News X. Ms. Urvashi Khona further went on to say on record that my father called Mr. Subramaniam Swamy, a “mad man,” which is an Absolute Lie. Our political views have never matched but that does not mean that we would stoop to insult a veteran politician without cause. I will be filing a defamation suit shortly against Ms. Urvashi Khona personally and the team at NewsX vicariously.
Having said that, to set the record straight here is my first and final statement on the matter in question: the Sunanda Tharoor death probe. I no longer have ANY faith in the media to go on record without them adulterating or misusing information I may provide. Since the fiasco started with my blog I fully intend to use this space to voice the Truth along with the relevant evidence.
- I am neither a Thiruananthapuram (Kerala) – based author nor have I ever been to Thiruvananthapuram or Dubai.
- I have spoken to Mrs. Sunanda Pushkar for few minutes in February 2012 (in full public view at the BDB book session) , an amiable chat after which I have never met her in person nor do I know her that well.
- I am NOT in the process of writing the biography of Dr. Shashi Tharoor, and here is the tweet that has been terribly misconstrued."
