New Delhi: The Special Investigating Team (SIT) of Delhi Police probing the sensational Sunanda Pushkar murder case examined journalist Nalini Singh on Friday.
While speaking to ANI, Singh confirmed that she was questioned by the police today. “I was examined as Sunanda had telephoned me on the same day she died,” Singh said.
Divulging details about her conversation with Sunanda on the fateful day, the senior journalist said that the deceased wife of Congress leader Shashi Tharoor wanted to talk to me regarding the IPL and said that she has taken all the blame on herself.
Sunanda remained silent when I asked if she wanted to talk to the media, Singh maintained.
Singh was called by the probe team led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Prem Nath at Sarojini Nagar police station, where she was questioned for over an hour.
Delhi Police on Thursday started questioning some journalists to whom Sunanda Pushkar had spoken hours before her death in January last year amidst its efforts to piece together the sequence of events that preceded her demise in mysterious circumstances.
The police is trying to find out whether she had mentioned about the IPL controversy or her husband Shashi Tharoor's alleged relations with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar or about any plans of hers to hold a press conference.
These journalists had been mentioning that Sunanda had suspected Tharoor of having an affair with Tarar and have also quoted her of saying that she had "taken the flak for him (Tharoor) in the IPL (controversy)", police sources said while explaining why one male and two female journalists were called for questioning by the Special Investigating Team (SIT).
There has also been a talk that the 52-year-old wife of Tharoor had planned to hold a press conference on January 17, the day she was found dead in a room of a five-star hotel.
Delhi Police filed a case of murder in the case on January 1 this year and an SIT was formed to probe the case. The SIT has questioned several people so far, including Tharoor, who was examined on Monday for around four hour.
Earlier this month, the police had said that based on available evidence, Sunanda Pushkar was poisoned.
Sunanda Pushkar was found dead in the five-star Leela Hotel in Delhi on January 17, 2014.
