Tax exemption for donation to Clean Ganga Fund: Govt

Donations made by individuals to the Clean Ganga Fund would be eligible for income tax exemption as per the Finance Bill 2015, Lok Sabha was informed on Thursday.

 New Delhi: Donations made by individuals to the Clean Ganga Fund would be eligible for income tax exemption as per the Finance Bill 2015, Lok Sabha was informed on Thursday.

Union Minister of State for Water Resources Sanwar Lal Jat, replying to a question, told Lok Sabha that Clean Ganga Fund has been set up by the government to receive donations for conservation of river Ganga.

"Donations made by resident individuals would be eligible for income tax exemption as per Finance Bill 2015 tabled before Parliament during the budget session," he said.

Responding to a query on whether the government proposes to engage PSUs and corporate houses in Ganga rejuvenation project, he said that relevant stakeholders will be involved in Namami Gange programme as per the requirement after following appropriate procedures and applicable rules.

The minister also said that no proposal was considered to convert the National Ganga River Basin Authority into a National Commission in the recent meeting of NGBRA.
