Hyderabad: Rapid advances in technologies provide ample opportunities for bringing in innovations in waste management, the scientific adviser to Defence Minister and DRDO chief Avinash Chander said here today.

"If we can convert millions of tonne of waste in the country into useful tangible products by affordable technological means, there is a huge scope for development," Chander said after launching the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan', organised at Advanced Systems Laboratory in DRDO's missile complex.

"Every individual in the country is morally bound to contribute towards clean, healthy environment and eco-system. I am sure that the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan' initiated towards cleanliness will transform the outlook of the nation," a release quoted Chander as saying.

Chander later led a cleanliness drive in areas surrounding the campus.

V G Sekaran, Director General, Missiles and Strategic Systems and Tessy Thomas, Director, Advanced Systems Laboratory, also spoke emphasising upon the importance of cleanliness, the release said.

A cleanliness oath was administered at the DRDO headquarters, New Delhi and also at various laboratories and establishments of DRDO across the country, it said.
