Three thefts in TMC leader's house; Rajnath assures action

Yet another theft-- third in three months-- at the residence of TMC leader Sudip Bandhopadhyay invited concern from several opposition members in the Lok Sabha as he said he was feeling "insecure" and sought the Speaker's "protection".

New Delhi: Yet another theft-- third in three months-- at the residence of TMC leader Sudip Bandhopadhyay invited concern from several opposition members in the Lok Sabha as he said he was feeling "insecure" and sought the Speaker's "protection".

Home Minister Rajnath Singh assured him that it would not be repeated and he will take up the matter with the Delhi Police Commissioner.

However, Singh's admission that he was not aware of the matter did not go down well with Bandhopadhyay as the issue was raised in the House earlier as well and he had received an assurance from the government.

"It's a matter of shame and surprise," the leader of Trinamool Congress parliamentary party said, adding that Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Pratap Rudy had offered assurance on the earlier occasion that the matter would be dealt with.

As several opposition members shared his concern, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan asked the government to look into the matter and told members that she was there to help him.

Raising the issue during the Zero Hour, Bandhopadhyay said thefts had taken place at his residence at Maulana Azad Road on March 7 and 9 and the last one took place only yesterday and the cops managed to catch the fleeing accused.

"I am feeling insecure... I want your protection," he said, adding that he had been seriously ill for a long time and such incidents made feel insecure.

He also wondered how such thefts were happening at a high security zone where the residence of Congress president Sonia Gandhi was also located. He lives in her neighbouhood.
