New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Anurag Thakur launched a scathing attack on the Congress on Wednesday saying that the grand old party believes in the slogan - 'family first, party second and nation last'.
Taking part in a debate in the Lok Sabha over Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) row and Rohith Vemula suicide issue, Thakur came down hard at Rahul Gandhi and slammed the Congress vice president for his visit to JNU and sharing the stage with people, who raised anti-India slogans.
"Why was Rahul Gandhi standing shoulder to shoulder with DSU members in JNU campus, who indulged in anti-national sloganeering?" the BJP leader asked.
While attacking Rahul, the BJP MP said, "You need to decide if you are with Gandhian thoughts or Maoist views.”
Further hitting out at the Congress VP, Thakur asserted, “You stand with those who chant slogans hum desh ke tukde tukde kar denge,” and urged the Congress leader to tell the nation on which part of India he wants to rule.
Concluding his speech, the BJP leader took a dig at the Congress saying, “You need to decide if you are with Afzal Guru who attacked the temple of democracy or those who live to protect it?”
Earlier, Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia had accused the BJP-led government of creating an atmosphere of intolerance in the country and alleged that efforts were on to crush any opposing point of view.
Taking part in a debate in the Lok Sabha over some recent incidents in institutions of higher education, Scindia said the government wants a particular thinking to prevail.
