Why is PM Modi shielding Shivraj Singh Chouhan, asks Rahul

New Delhi: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday launched an all out attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi accusing him of protecting BJP leaders Vasundhara Raje and Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Rahul, while talking to the media, took a dig at PM Modi over his poll promise to end corruption in the country and asked why was PM reluctant to tackle it.

"PM Modi said he will not let corruption flourish. Why is he reluctant now? PM must explain why he's allowing corruption in the country," he said.

Further taking on the PM, Rahul raised the contentious issue of Vyapam scam that has rocked the Madhya Pradesh government and the ruling BJP.

The Congress VP posed the question, "why is the PM letting Shivraj Singh Chouhan go scot-free".

Talking about the Lalit Modi controversy which had put the BJP on the backfoot recently, Rahul also questioned PM Modi for not making efforts to bring the former IPL chief back to the country.

"PM said he will not tolerate corruption, then why is he allowing corruption to take place in Rajasthan? Why is he not trying to bring back Lalit Modi?" Rahul asked.

The controversy over assistance to Lalit Modi with immigration papers by BJP leaders, Sushma Swaraj and Vasundhra Raje, has given fodder to the Congress party for a relentless attack on the BJP-led NDA government.

Opposition has also been demanding that the PM must break his silence in the Vyapam scam as well as the Lalit Modi controversy.

The Opposition has been claiming that the Vyapam scam was getting murkier by the day with mounting death toll of the accused and the witnesses.

The Supreme Court handed over to the case to the CBI on Thursday for a thorough probe.

As for Chouhan, he had initially resisted a CBI probe in the matter saying that the STF of MP Police was doing a fine job of investigating the case.

He finally relented on Tuesday saying that he was ready for a probe by the central investigating agency.
