Mumbai: Expressing happiness over their safe return from strife-hit Yemen, the Indian nationals who were evacuated from the Middle East country on Friday lauded the rescue efforts carried out by the government.
Dr. Zarina, who arrived in Mumbai, said that the situation is so bad in the war-torn country that the prices of essential commodities had sky rocketed.
"The situation is very critical over there. There were attacks going on throughout the night. There was a steep rise in the price of vegetables and other essential commodities there. The Indian government provided us full support," she said.
"Fighting is going on in Yemen for the last one month now. The Central and state governments have both made good arrangements for our return. We were also given Rs. 3,000 as financial support," said one of the rescued persons.
The Ministry of External Affairs had earlier confirmed the rescue of over 630 people from Sana'a in Yemen by three special Air India flights, concluding India's air evacuation process.
The total number of Indians evacuated from Sana'a by air has crossed 2,900 by 18 special flights since the beginning of the air operations.
Indian naval vessels have also evacuated over 1,670 Indians from Aden, Al Hudaydah and Al Mukalla ports in Yemen since March 31.
Indian Naval Ship INS Sumitra evacuated 349 persons, including 46 Indians and 303 foreign nationals from Al Hudaydah port on April 9.
The entire evacuation effort has resulted in the evacuation of over 5600 persons. These include over 4,640 India n nationals and about 960 foreign nationals from 41 countries.
