Srinagar: 31 people, including a group of 23 British trekkers, trapped after flash floods in Leh district of Jammu and Kashmir were on Friday airlifted.
"A group of 23 British citizens comprising one male (group leader) one female teacher, 21 girl students, eight local guides and cooks were trapped due to flash floods between Markha and Sko areas of Leh on August 5," a police spokesman said.
On receiving information, a party from Leh police station and headed by Head Constable Mohammad?Isa trekked 12-hour journey with ration and set the rescue?operation in motion.
"The group was rescued with the help of helicopter and? shifted to Leh," he added.
The group had gone trekking on August 2 and were trapped due to flash floods caused by heavy rainfall in Leh?and adjoining areas.
