Jammu: The chain hunger strike resumed by the AIIMS Coordination Committee (ACC), demanding setting up of the premier medical institute here, entered the second consecutive day on Wednesday with 20 people taking their turn to sit for the strike.

"It is the second day of the strike today and people from various sections have taken their turn today to sit in support of the AIIMS demand. We will continue it till our demand is met," Chairman of the Committee, Abhinav Sharma said.

The ACC, an amalgam of over 70, social, religious, political and business organisations which is spearheading the agitation, restarted its chain hunger strike yesterday after the deadline of getting an "appropriate order" for setting up of AIIMS in Jammu region expired.

Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh along with his Cabinet colleagues had on June 18 given a written assurance of getting the order out on or before July 20.

Sharma said that the Deputy CM had tried to contact him but he refused to meet him as the deadline given to the government had passed.

He said that the constituents of the Coordination Committee would hold a meeting tomorrow to discuss their future course of action in which they are expected to increase the intensity of their agitation.
