Army jawan killed in accidental gunfire in J&K

An Army jawan of the Rashtirya Rifles was killed when his service rifle went off accidentally during guard duty in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu: An Army jawan of the Rashtirya Rifles was killed when his service rifle went off accidentally during guard duty in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Rifleman Chander Mohan Sharma of 28 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) died of accidental discharge of fire from his service rifle yesterday morning while he was on a protection duty in Kupwara district of the state, defence spokesman said here on Tuesday.

The mortal remains of the soldier reached his ancestral place in Garah Brahmana village in Akhnoor tehsil of Jammu district last night and cremation has been done with full military honours today, he said.

The individual had returned from leave and his tenure in the RR was over, he added.
