Panic gripped Sopore township of North Kashmir following a brief exchange of fire between two militants and police Monday evening, officials said.

two militants and police Monday evening, officials said.

The shootout took place as two militants passing
through Chanikhan area of the town, 55 kms from here, came
across a police patrol, the officials said.

They said the militants started firing
indiscriminately, which was retaliated by the cops but none
was hurt in the incident.

While the militants managed to escape from the scene,
security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a
manhunt for them, the officials said.
