Farooq asks Saudi to help better ties between India, Pak

Chairman of Moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umer Farooq has asked Saudi Arabia to play a "positive role" in bringing India and Pakistan closer for resolution of the Kashmir issue.

"Saudi Arabia which has friendly relations with both
India and Pakistan should play a positive role in bringing
the two countries closer to pave way for resolution of Kashmir
issue," Mirwaiz was quoted as saying in Jeddah in a statement
here.

Lauding the role of those lending support for resolution
of Kashmir issue, Mirwaiz said Kashmir is the basic issue and
the bone of contention between India and Pakistan.

"Saudi Arabia is playing a great role in addressing the
problems faced by the Muslims around the globe particularly in
Afghanistan and Palestine and we would like it to extend its
reach to India and Pakistan to bring them closer so that the
Kashmir issue could be resolved," he said.

He also asked OIC, which is headquartered at Jeddah, to
send a goodwill team to Kashmir to access the situation there.
