J&K Govt to hire services of 43,000 casual workers

The Jammu and Kashmir Government has decided to hire the services of 43,000 casual workers in various departments, a state minister said.

Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Government
has decided to hire the services of 43,000 casual workers in
various departments, a state minister said on Wednesday.

Replying to the question of PDP`s Mehbooba Mufti in
the Assembly, Minister for Labour and Employment Abdul Gani
Malik said in a written reply that the state government has
decided to engage 43,000 unemployed youths in the 18-37 age
group for various public utility services.

Of the total workforce, 10,000 each will be engaged in
power development department and PHE, irrigation and flood
control department, 8,000 in Rural Development department,
6,000 each in PWD and school education department, besides
2,000 in floriculture and 1,000 in forest departments, he
said.

"The first priority will be to engage on need basis,
personnel for maintenance and operation of the ongoing schemes
and projects from out of the resources available for such
schemes," he said.

These workers will be paid a minimum daily wage of Rs
110, he added.
