Jammu: In an attempt to provide better
protection to its personnel during combat, Jammu and Kashmir
Police will procure light-weight bullet-proof jackets and
ballistic helmets for its use in counter-insurgency operations
in the state.
The state Police has floated tender for the supply of
2000 bullet-proof jackets and 2000 bullet proof helmets to the
Police department.
The tender issued by Additional Director General police
(ADGP), has invited from manufacturers or their authorised
dealers to quote against the tender for the supply of
bullet-proof jackets and helmets on January 27 of this month.
As per ADGP, the bullet-proof Jacket should give complete
coverage, side protection and should withstand and conform to
the NIJ standard protection level of the Personal Body Armour
during ballistic trial.
It should have protection from all weapons - sten
machine carbine, 12 bore gun, SLR and AK-rifle, he said.
The weight of two types of BP jackets should be 6.31
kgs (standard size) and 6.62 kgs (Large size) and should be
armed with trauma pad and Ultra Violet resistant.
Police will arming jawans with body protections during
the counter insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir to
bring down the level of casualties during anti-militancy
operations in the State.
