Srinagar: The youth in Jammu and Kashmir
should be put at the forefront in every sector to lead the
state towards prosperity and enable it to emerge as a
"dignified and honurable" region, a minister has said.

"We have to bring our youth at forefront in every sector
and lead the state towards prosperity utilising their
potential in positive manner," Minister for Agriculture Ghulam
Hassan Mir said, addressing a gathering yesterday in Kunzar in
Baramulla district.

In an apparent reference to separatist groups, Mir
alleged that "leaders and political class" have shown Kashmiri
youth the way to "graveyards".

"I sincerely urge the political leadership across the
board to show the path of prosperity, education, knowledge and
honourable life to youth... Let youth set the criteria for
their leadership," Mir, who is the president of Democratic
Party Nationalist said.

Commenting on the state government`s policy of making
agriculture as thrust area, Mir said it is the backbone of
our state`s economy and involves 70 per cent population.

"We want to infuse competition among the farmers as it is
the only sector which has maximum employment generation
potential," he said.
