New Delhi: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Majid Memon on Friday said the unfortunate attack on the Rajbagh police station in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir reflected the lawlessness in the state after the PDP-BJP alliance came to power.

"This is unfortunate in the sense that this only reflects that there is no rule of law, there is total chaos, lawlessness. Thanks to the uncomfortable PDP-BJP alliance which is in power in Jammu and Kashmir," Memon said.

"We have been seeing from past more than a month, since the assumption of power by this combination that the separatist and anti-nationalist elements are being encouraged. They probably think that they are no more orphan, they have got somebody in the government to support, depending upon soft support of PDP," he added.

One policeman has been killed and nine people have been left injured after unidentified gunmen opened fire at the police station earlier this morning.

One militant has also been shot dead by the security forces in the ongoing encounter.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh has instructed the Jammu and Kashmir Home Secretary to actively monitor the situation.

The Ministry of Home Affairs is also in touch with the agencies of Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, the Jammu-Pathankot national highway has been closed due to the attack.
