Srinagar: Opposition PDP chief Mehbooba
Mufti and her party colleagues were today prevented by
agitated locals from meeting the parents of the teenager whose
death during clashes between police and stone pelting
demonstrators had sparked protests in Kashmir Valley.
As Mehbooba and her party colleagues tried to enter the
house of Tufail Ahmad Mattoo at Saidakadal this afternoon,
some youths told her not to attempt meeting the family,
sources said, adding they did not give any reason.
They said that some women in the house tried to meet
Mehbooba, but they were also prevented from doing so.
Regretting that its leaders were denied an opportunity to
console the parents of Tufail, the PDP said such actions were
against social and religious norms.
The party also alleged that mainstream parties were being
marginalised due to the failure of NC-led government.
"Whatever the reasons for preventing Mehbooba from
meeting the family, it underlines a fresh bout of
radicalisation taking roots among people," the PDP spokesman
said.
"It seems the entire political class is once again
getting marginalised in the city," he added.
Mehbooba later visited Rafiq Ahmed Bangroo, who was
allegedly beaten by CRPF persons four days ago at Danamazar
locality of old city during a clash between stone pelters and
paramilitary forces and has been undergoing treatment at S K
Institute of Medical Sciences.
