The journalist working with a local newspaper was allegedly manhandled and assaulted by the official when he was working on a story on the alleged mess in the transport department in the district.

The journalist fraternity of the Doda district staged a sit-in outside the deputy commissioner's office demanding strict action against the accused officer.

"I am not aware of the recent development but I assure you that an enquiry would be conducted and action as per law taken against whosoever is found guilty," Transport Commissioner Jammu and Kashmir Dilshad Khan said.
