One-way traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway

In view of heavy snowfall on the upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, there will be one-way traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway from Friday.

Jammu: In view of heavy snowfall on the upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, there will be one-way traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway from Friday.

An advisory was issued today by the Traffic Police for the people planning to undertake travel on the 434-km arterial highway, which is the only road link which connects the Valley to the rest of the country.

"According to Inspector General of Police, Traffic, one way movement of traffic will be in force on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NHW-1A) from tomorrow till further orders," a police spokesman said.

He said that the advisory was issued in view of slippery conditions of the highway because of the rain, snowfall, poor road condition and the triggering of landslides along the Jawahar Tunnel-Lower Munda, Jawahar Tunnel-Banihal, Ramsoo-Ramban and Patnitop sectors.

The decision was taken to ensure safety and security of passengers and hassle free movement of load carriers.

Under this system, the traffic will be allowed only one-way, from Jammu to Srinagar and vice versa on alternate days.
