Over 3 quintals poppy straw seized, two smugglers arrested

In a major narcotics haul, police have seized 3.3 quintals of poppy straw from a petrol tanker and arrested two smugglers of the contraband at Ramban on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, police said Friday.

Acting on a tip-off, police Thursday intercepted a
petrol tanker at Ramban, about 150 km and recovered
from it 18 bags containing 3.3 quintals of the contraband.
The bags had been concealed in specially made spaces
inside the tanker, a police spokesman said.

Police seized the tanker and arrested two smugglers,
both residents of Simbal Camp in Jammu district.

The consignment of narcotics was being smuggled from
Awantipora area in Kashmir to Gadigarh in Jammu and a part of
it was to be transported to Punjab, he said.

Police had also seized 15 kg of poppy straw from
another truck on Wednesday and arrested its driver in Batote,
120 km.
