Two youths on Thursday allegedly opened fire on a temple complex spreading panic in Jammu winter capital's posh Trikuta Nagar locality, but were arrested, police said.

Jammu: Two youths on Thursday allegedly opened fire on a temple complex spreading panic in Jammu winter capital's posh Trikuta Nagar locality, but were arrested, police said.

"Two car-borne youth fired at the building of a religious place (temple) in Trikuta Nagar this afternoon. They later escaped from the spot," Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, Uttam Chand told reporters.

Some eye witnesses immediately informed the police that the youth who fired were drunk, he said, adding that messages were flashed to every police station, and police posts and check posts in the district were put on alert.

The duo were arrested from Chowki Choura area (in Akhnoor on Jammu-Rajouri highway), he said, adding that a case has been registered.

According to police, both the youth are residents of Surankote belt of Poonch district. Police have also seized one 12 bore gun and six cartridges from their possession and seized their car.

Further interrogation is on, the SSP said.

Director General of Police, K Rajendra Kumar today said any attempt to vitiate the electoral process would not be allowed.
