Jammu: Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir police today booked a constable couple on the charges of duping their colleagues of more than 1.5 crore rupees and gold.

"Crime Branch, Jammu today registered a case against Woman Selection Grade Constable Nirmal Kour and her husband Selection Grade Constable Mohinder Singh Saini for cheating and duping their fellow officials and misappropriating huge amount of money and gold," SSP Crime Branch (Jammu), Mubassir Latifi said.

He said the case was registered on the complaint of two woman constables - Veena Devi and Sabeena Akhter - who approached Commandant IRP-15th Battalion, Jammu in this regard.

"The two women constables filed a complaint wherein they alleged that Nirmal and her husband Mohinder had loaned more than two lakh rupees from them on the promise of repaying the money with an interest of Rs 5,000 per month, but they grew suspicious when no money was paid to them," he said.

He said that during the course of enquiry, it was found that the accused had collected a huge amount of cash and gold not only from the complainants but also from other women officials of the same battalion.

"They collected the cash after promising the lenders high rate of interest and gold loan facilities, but used the finance for their personal interests. They duped their colleagues of 1.50 crores rupees and 300 grams gold," he said.

Latifi said that an investigation has been initiated into the matter to unearth the entire racket.
