Katra: In a stern warning to the separatists, Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh on Friday said the state government will act tough against them and not tolerate their 'provocative' actions in Jammu and Kashmir again.

"We will act again, if any such incident (of provocative activities and hoisting Pakistani flag) is repeated. We are not going to tolerate it," Singh told reporters here today, when separatist leader Masarat Alam Bhat was arrested in Srinagar in connection with the raising of Pakistani flags during a rally on Wednesday.

The BJP leader was in Katra to attend his party's Working Committee meeting.

Asked whether Mufti government succumbed to the BJP's pressure, he said, "It is not a question of pressure. Actually the government has acted. The responsibilities is joint that of the state and the central governments."

The Deputy CM said right from the beginning "we had been saying that we are going to act, and we have acted. We would not allow such activity to reoccur in Jammu and Kashmir".

He said, as far as, impact of the incident was concerned, "It was not so huge, as they do not have such support...But a single incident like this gives a wrong signal. It gives a message that government was coming under pressure. We will act again if such incident is repeated. We are not going to tolerate it".

When asked whether Mufti government came under pressure from the party, BJP National general secretary Ram Madav said, "No pressure. They have taken action based on whatever evidence and details they have collected. There was no pressure from us".

On the delay in arrest of Alam, Madav said this question should be asked to the state government, but police after due investigation have now taken appropriate action.

PDP spokesman Wahid-ul-Rahman Para also told reporters that Mufti government did not arrest Alam under the pressure from BJP but as per the procedure.
