Schools reopen in Valley after four months vacation

High and higher Secondary schools re-opened in Kashmir Valley on Monday after four-month-long winter vacation.

Srinagar: High and higher Secondary schools re-opened in Kashmir Valley on Monday after four-month-long winter vacation.

"The high and higher secondary schools re-opened today after the winter break and primary and middle schools will re-open on March 16," Director Education, Kashmir, Showkat Beigh said.

The government on Saturday announced extension of the winter vacations for students up to class eight only.

However, it directed the school staff to join the duties.

The winter vacations were extended for the primary and middle classes for the third time this year in the wake of heavy rains and snowfall in the Valley as well in view of the outbreak of swine flu.

The schools were scheduled to re-open on February 23 after the annual winter break.

Meanwhile, the annual Board and University examinations scheduled for today were postponed in the wake of heavy snowfall.

The schedule for the postponed papers would be announced later.
