A police officer was on Wednesday injured when suspected militant opened fire on a car in Bandipora district of north Kashmir, police said.

Srinagar: A police officer was on Wednesday injured when suspected militant opened fire on a car in Bandipora district of north Kashmir, police said.

Sub-Inspector Altaf was travelling in a car which was attacked by unidentified gunmen at village Gund Dachina in Aragam area around 1230 hours, causing injuries to him, a police officer said.

The suspected ultras were travelling in a load carrier and fled the scene after firing at the police officer.

The injured officer was airlifted to Army's 92 Base Hospital at Badamibagh cantonment here and is undergoing treatment, the officer said.

Police assisted by 14 Rashtriya Rifles have cordoned off Aragam and a search operation was going on, the officer said.
