Ranchi: BJP's Jharkhand unit on Friday welcomed the Centre's advisory to states asking them to increase the strength of women in police force.
"The BJP is committed to enhancing women's prestige and position in the society and the Centre's initiative to increase their strength in the police force is one of the steps in that direction," BJP state unit spokesman Pradip Sinha said here.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today said in Delhi that his department issued an advisory to state governments to ensure 33 per cent reservation for women up to Sub-Inspector level in state police.
With Jharkhand having several Maoist groups, including the CPI (Maoist), affecting developmental works in rural areas, Sinha appreciated Singh's offer for talks to the left wing extremists after dropping guns.
"The Maoists should abjure violence and come forward for talks unconditionally, availing the opportunity to get back into mainstream and participate in the development of states and the country," Sinha said.
