Medininagar (Jharkhand): Eight operatives of the ultra outfit PLFI were arrested and arms and ammunition seized from them in Purusothampur village of Palamau district, police today said.

Acting on a tip-off that a group of PLFI operatives led by zonal commander Laxman Yadav alias Shivshankar Yadav had arrived in the village to commit a crime, district armed police (DAP) personnel surrounded the house of one Ganesh Yadav late last night and challenged the ultras to surrender, Police Superintendent of Palamau, Narendra Kumar Singh said.

The DAP jawans barged into the house when their calls went unheeded, he said, adding the ultras were found hiding under the cover of hay.

One INSAS and one AK-47 rifle (both looted from the security personnel after a shoot out in the Lakkarbagha village in adjoining Latehar district a year ago), 190 live cartridges of different bores were seized from them, Singh said.

While of the arrested ultras - Ramjit Singh, Rajkishore Singh, Virendra Singh, Arun Kharwar and Naresh Yadav - were all residents of Lohardaga district, Lokesh Yadav and Mantu Yadav belonged to Latehar district.

Laxman Yadav was a resident of Kasmar in Palamau.
