'Burdwan blast suspect nabbed on third visit to Pakur'

Burdwan bomb blast suspect Ibrahim Sheikh, who was arrested from here on Saturday last, was nabbed on his third visit to Pakur as the police obtained important information from him about the blast, police said on Wednesday.

"Ibrahim Sheikh had visited Pakur twice earlier and has established contacts with about two dozen youths," Pakur Superintendent of Police told reporters here.

"We got important information about the Burdwan bomb blast following the interrogation," the SP said.

After his arrest, the police officer headed a team in conducting raids in some places.

Sheikh, a member of Jamat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and used to be known as Lal Mohammand and Laltu, was nabbed near Tilbitha railway station under Muffasil police station of the district on April 19.

The SP said Sheikh, who was from Murshidabad in West Bengal, was an active member of the 'sura' (political committee) of the banned JMB.

Sheikh was also in charge of Murshidabad-based Fatima-tul-Johar Banat Madarsa before it was sealed following the Burdwan blast.

Armed with a production warrant secured from a Kolkata court, a team of the National Investigation Agency was also in Pakur to interrogate him, the police officer said.
