Over the last 10 days, Jharkhand police have recovered five landmines and arms and have destroyed a Maoist training camp and bunker in operations against the left-wing ultras, police said on Saturday.

Ranchi: Over the last 10 days, Jharkhand police have recovered five landmines and arms and have destroyed a Maoist training camp and bunker in operations against the left-wing ultras, police said on Saturday.

"In the last 10 days, 10 operations against the Maoists took place. Of the 10 operations, gunbattle between the Maoists and police took place in six. Police recovered five landmines and arms and destroyed one training camp and a Maoist bunker," Jharkhand police spokesperson VH Deshmukh told a news agency.

In West Singhbhum a Maoist training camp was destroyed last week. One Maoist bunker was destroyed in Ranchi.

Police recovered five landmines, weighing 10 to 20 kg. The recovered arms include one AK 47 rifle, seven regular pistols and 10 indigenous revolvers. More than 100 live cartridges, three mobile sets and eight SIM cards were also recovered.

"The operations took place in some parts of the state based on intelligence inputs," said Deshmukh.

Asked about any more operations which had been planned, he said: "We carry out operations based on intelligence inputs."

Maoist rebels are active in 18 of the 24 districts of the state. Nearly 1,600 people including 360 security personnel have been killed in the last nine years in Maoist related violence.
