Policeman injured in encounter with Maoists in Jharkhand, dies

A district police personnel, who sustained head injury in an encounter between Maoists and security personnel at Vikrampur village in East Singhbhum district on Sunday last, succumbed to his injuries last night, a senior police officer said.

Jamshedpur: A district police personnel, who sustained head injury in an encounter between Maoists and security personnel at Vikrampur village in East Singhbhum district on Sunday last, succumbed to his injuries last night, a senior police officer said.

Dukhiya Murmu, bodyguard of Additional Superintendent of Police Shailendra Burnwal died at Tata Main Hospital here at around 11.00 PM, the ASP said.

Murmu will be given a guard of honor this afternoon in the police lines, the police said.

Earlier, a Maoist identified as Joru was killed in the Sunday encounter.

The district police force had rushed to the spot on Sunday after being informed that a group of naxalites gathered at a fair organized on the occasion of Tusu Parv when the encounter occurred.

Police had recovered a pistol and five live cartridges from Joru's possession.
