Ranchi: Many rivers are flowing above the danger-mark, low-lying areas have been flooded and some bridges have collapsed in Jharkhand following incessant rains since last week, an official said on Monday.
Kharkai river in Jamshedpur, Roro in West Singhbhum and other rivers in the state are flowing above the danger-mark, flooding the low-lying areas. In Namkom area, hundreds of houses situated on banks of Swarnarekha river have been flooded.
The worst-affected districts are Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Gumla, Ramgarh, Lohardagga and Latehar. Since June 15, Ranchi and Lohardagga have received over 300 mm and 250 mm rainfall respectively.
In state capital Ranchi, over a dozen colonies have been flooded, some bridges have submerged and some have even collapsed, and there has been no electricity supply for may days in a lot of areas.
The state electricity board officials say some wires snapped and fell on the roads and repair work was under way.
"There could be some respite from Monday," G.K. Mohanty, director of Jharkhand Met Office, said.\
