Three Maoists arrested in Jharkhand's Latehar

Three Maoists were arrested by security forces in the Latehar district of Jharkhand on Wednesday.

The arrested trio - Umesh Yadav, Srinath Singh alias Santosh and Ashish Kumar Singh - were rounded up during a joint operation by the Jharkhand Special Task Force (STF) and a team of the Latehar district police.

One 7.65 mm pistol, Gelatin rods, wires, 23 mobile phones, 28 sim cards as well as clothes and food items were recovered from the arrested individuals. Police suspect that these were meant for the left wing extremists hiding in the forests.

"The Jharkhand STF team and the Latehar district police team have arrested three Maoists, including a commander..We have recovered 23 mobile phones, 28 batteries, explosives like gelatin rods, one 7.65 mm pistol and several other things. Two of the arrested individuals have past criminal records.The forces have done a good job by nabbing them," said a police official.

"We have come across an important Maoist racket. These items could have been used by them in violent activities. This racket extends from dense forests of Jharkhand to Jhanabad and Patna," he added.

The police further claimed that the interrogation of the arrested trio has given them vital information, which can help them in future operations.
