Ghaziabad: City traders on Tuesday threatened to close their shops and establishments on December 11 in protest against the alleged assault on their leader and former SP Rajya Sabha MP Banwari Lal Kanchal in a court in Lucknow recently.

"Kanchal had gone to Lucknow Court in a matter concerning his property, where he was allegedly thrashed by a group of advocates on the court premises. He sustained severe injuries," Zila Udyog Vyapar Mandal (ZUVM) General Secretary Shiv Shankar Rathi said today.

Rathi said that a case should be lodged under appropriate sections of IPC against the culprits.

To press their demands, the ZUVM and Mahanagar Udyog Vyapar Mandal will organise rallies in all tehsils and towns of the district on Wednesday evening.

All petrol pumps will remain closed from 10 AM to 3 PM. Only essential services will be exempted.
