Kerala CM defends infamous IPS officer’s posting

Tomin J Thachankary had been under suspension for long for various reasons including visiting foreign countries without taking due permission.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister
Oommen Chandy on Friday defended the decision to post
controversial IPS officer Tomin J Thachankary as Managing
Director of Marketing Federation after the expiry of his
suspension period.

"The Government has not done anything unlawful. Simply
because an official faced charges, that person cannot be
denied posting," Chandy told reporters here.

Thachankary, who was Inspector General of Northern Range,
had been under suspension for long for various reasons
including visiting foreign countries without taking due
permission from superiors.

The allegation against him that he had made contacts with
fundamental outfits during his foreign trip was being looked
into by the National Investigation Agency.

The decision to reinstate Thachankary into service was
taken in July this year, following expiry of his suspension
period, considering the NIA`s views on the matter.

Opposition leader VS Achuthanandan had sought to know on
what grounds Thachankary was taken back in service and given
the posting.

Though the state Cabinet had decided to reinstate him in
the service in July, the posting was given today.
