Project report for Light metro for Kerala cities gets sanction

 The Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the elevated Light Metro meant for Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode was accorded sanction at the Board of Directors meeting chaired by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy here today.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the elevated Light Metro meant for Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode was accorded sanction at the Board of Directors meeting chaired by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy here today.

It was also decided to change the name of Kerala Monorail Corporation Ltd as Kerala Rapid Transit Corporation in the wake of decision to drop the proposal for Monorail project for these two cities.

Work on the project would begin once it gets the approval of the cabinet, State Minister for Public Works Department V K Ebrahim Kunju told reporters after the meeting.

Cost of the project planned to be completed within three years was Rs 6,728-crore--Rs 3,453 crore for 22.5 km in Thiruvananthapuram and Rs 2,057 for 14.5 km in Kozhikode.

E Sreedharan, main advisor to Delhi Metro Corporation, implementing agency of the project, was also present on the occasion.
