Tanker fire: Victim`s kins to get Rs 5 lakh relief

A meeting of the state cabinet also decided to direct state
Chief Secretary Neela Gangadharan to conduct an inquiry into
the circumstances that led to the devastating fire, which also
consumed four houses, a row of shops and several motorcycles
after the LPG tanker capsized and caught fire.

Briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting, Chief
Minister V S Achuthanandan said Rs 25,000 each would be given
to those injured in the mishap that occurred on December 31.

Steps would also be taken to provide jobs for the eligible
family members of those who died in the mishap, he said.

Besides providing relief on its own, the state government
would make all efforts for getting due compensation from
Indian Oil Corporation and the insurance coverages concerned,
he said.

The tanker was carrying 19 tons of LPG from Mangalore to
IOC`s bottling plant at Paripally when it toppled after
colliding with a car.
