Harda (MP): A 90-year-old fake baba,
Shivdayal Sharma was on Wednesday handed over to the Dhar district
police.
Shivdayal Sharma alias Swami Baba claimed himself as
the disciple of Yoga Guru Baba Swami Ramdev and cheated many
childless couples across the state, police said today.
About his modus operandi, police said that Sharma,
claiming that he was the disciple of Ramdev has taken money
ranging from Rs 20,000 to Rs 40,000 from many couples without
a child with the promise to give them medicine to enable them
to have kids.
Sharma had organised his health camps at Dhar and
other places and assured the couples that his head office was
at Ramdev`s Patanchali Yogavidhya Peeth in Haridwar. He
claimed that he gets medicines from Ramdev, police said.
"We got the information that the Baba (Shivdayal
Sharma) was treating people at Sirkamba village at his camp.
We detained him yesterday," Timrani Police Station House
Officer Ramprasad Kusmarkar said.
He, after cheating people in Dhar around two months
back, had escaped from there and was absconding after a case
was registered against him.
The Dhar police had come down here and took him to
their district where he has cheated around 250 couples.
Police were not knowing the place from where the Baba
hails as he was giving contradictory statements in this
regard.
