Farmer kills self in Madhya Pradesh

A 47-year-old farmer allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance in Vijaygarh village of the district apparently over not getting compensation for his crop which suffered an extensive damage in unseasonal rains and hailstorm, police said on Monday.

Mavsiya Sakhwar took the extreme step yesterday, said Sub Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Mohammad Rangrez.

However, Sakhwar's father Gokul claimed that his son killed himself as he failed to get compensation for the damage caused to the wheat crop which he had sown on a rented piece of land.

The SDOP said the district administration was investigating the exact cause behind Sakhwar's suicide.

The body has been sent for post-mortem and details will be known after investigation, Rangrez said.
