Bhopal: Accusing the BJP government in
Madhya Pradesh of failing to disburse relief amounts to
farmers, whose crop have been damaged by frost and cold-wave,
JD(U) on Thursday appealed to state Governor Rameshwar Thakur to
ensure help for the peasants.
"It is the duty of the state government to provide relief
to farmers, whose crop was damaged by frost and cold-wave in
January, within 15 days as per section 6 (4) of State Revenue
Book Circular," Madhya Pradesh JD(U) president Govind Yadav
said in a statement.
"The state government has failed to provide relief from
the funds available with it," he said.
The Centre should also release funds from the National
Calamity Relief Fund for the farmers, Yadav said.
He said the farmers were driven to suicide due to
government`s failure to disburse relief quickly.
"We appeal to the Madhya Pradesh Governor to act in
accordance with the constitutional provisions and ensure
that farmers get succour in 15 days."
Around a dozen farmers have committed suicide following
crop-damage in the recent weeks in Madhya Pradesh.
