Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Babu Lal Gaur on Monday rejected calls for a CBI probe into the deaths of those allegedly involved in the high-profile Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB or Vyapam) scam a day after two more accused in the case were found dead under mysterious circumstances.
Dismissing calls for a CBI enquiry, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Babu Lal Gaur claimed that these deaths have no connection to the Vyapam scam.
"One who has come will eventually go. The prisoners die daily because of illness. There is no need for a CBI enquiry," Gaur said.
So far, nearly 40 people involved in the case, accused as well as witnesses, have died under suspicious circumstances. The most high profile of the cases was the death of former MP governor Ram Naresh Yadav's son Shailesh Yadav who succumbed after having a brain haemorrhage in March.
Several politicians, including former Education Minister Laxmikant Sharma, a host of officials and scores of aspirants have been arrested in the case.
Congress members had in the past, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking the Centre's intervention in the Vyapam scam case in Madhya Pradesh and claimed to have submitted "solid evidence" showing Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's involvement in it.
The Vyapam Scam involved the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB), which holds exams for positions like medical officers, constables, teachers and auditors for government departments.
Candidates allegedly bribed government officials to ensure that they made it to the list of those who cleared the test.
