11 killed in New Year road accident in Maharashtra

Eleven people, including three children, were killed and seven injured when their Tavera jeep collided with a stationary truck in Maharashtra`s Beed district early Friday.

Mumbai: Eleven people, including three children, were killed and seven injured when their Tavera jeep collided with a stationary truck in Maharashtra`s Beed district early Friday.

The accident took place just after midnight when the speeding Tavera, carrying 18 people, rammed into a truck on Ambejogai-Kalamb highway no. 157, 400 km from here, police said. A six-month-old girl escaped miraculously without a scratch.

Some of those injured are in a critical condition, a police official said.
The victims are Chand Khan Ismail Pathan (50), Bibi Chand Khan (45), Mustafa Khan (55), Sheikh Rehman (18), Razia Shaukat (30), Sheikh Zeenat (7), Shaukat Yusuf (41), Somya Shaukat (5), Aman Shaukat (3), Raju (26), and the vehicle driver Sheikh Salim Saudullah.
