Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan on Tuesday assured the State Legislative Assembly that action will be taken within one month against officials responsible for illegal allotment of plots.

Nagpur: Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok
Chavan on Tuesday assured the State Legislative Assembly that
action will be taken within one month against officials
responsible for illegal allotment of plots of land under the
Urban Land Ceiling (ULC) Act in Nagpur.

Government will initiate departmental inquiry against
the erring officials in the matter, Chavan said.

Replying to Chandrashekhar Bawankule and Davendra
Phadanvis (both BJP), during question hour over irregularities
in allotment of plots of land under the ULC, Minister of State
for Urban Development Sachin Aher informed the House that
Justice Batta Commission was set up to probe the
irregularities.

Opposition leader Eknath Khadse (BJP) and others
demanded stern action against officials responsible for
committing irregularities in land allotment and demanded their
suspension. Khadse said one of the officers has even retired.

Aher replied that the government has already taken
action against some of the officials. But Phadanvis claimed
that only class four employees have been penalised by the
government.

Chavan intervened in the discussion and assured that
action will be taken against erring officials within one
month.

Moreover, as per the recommendations of the Bitta
Commission, 36 allotments have been cancelled, the Chief
Minister informed the House.
