Azmi to vacate Bhiwandi seat, retain Mankhurd in Maha Assembly

Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Abu Asim Azmi would be vacating Bhiwandi Assembly seat.

Mumbai: Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Abu Asim
Azmi would be vacating Bhiwandi Assembly seat.

Azmi was elected from two constituencies -- Mankhurd in
central Mumbai and Bhiwandi in Thane district -- in the
October 13 elections.

The SP leader has decided to retain Mankhurd-Shivajinagar
seat, party sources said.

Azmi, whose assets according to his poll affidavit are
around Rs 126 crore, was recently involved in a political
debate with Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) after demanding
the House agenda in Hindi.

"Hindi is our national language and it should come after
Marathi. However, the House agenda and other papers are in
Marathi and English. So, I wrote to the Assembly secretary
demanding the agenda in Hindi," Azmi, had said.

Furious over Azmi`s demand, MNS chief Raj Thackeray,
known for his anti-north Indian campaign, said "if Azmi wants
the House agenda in Hindi, then he should go to Uttar
Pradesh."
