Beed: A local court has asked police to file a report on a case registered against cartoonist Aseem Trivedi here in January this year for allegedly denigrating national symbols after they failed to filed a charge sheet against him.

Principal Judicial Magistrate NR Mangire last week issued a notice to police in this regard, seeking a report on the case at the earliest.

Hanumant Upre of `Satya-shodhak OBC Parishad` had moved the magistrate`s court when police did not register his complaint against Trivedi under Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971 over Trivedi`s cartoons which allegedly insult the national emblem, Parliament, etc.

Beed police then filed a case on January 7 upon the magistrate`s order.
Trivedi was arrested in a similar case by Mumbai police recently, and was charged with, among other things, sedition.

Bombay High Court, in response to a PIL, later granted him bail, questioning the application of sedition charge.
