Mumbai: Installation of CCTVs in lodges will be made mandatory in Maharashtra, Home Minister RR Patil told the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday.
Replying to the debate on a calling attention notice on the issue of a sex scandal in Nashik district, Patil said a policy decision would be taken in this regard will be taken.
The demand came from Girish Bapat (BJP) who said CCTVs could provide clinching evidence for anti-social activities.
Patil said the accused lured poor women into having physical relationship with them."MMS clips were made and circulated. The women were threatened and blackmailed with these clips," he said adding that the accused conducted their activities in two lodges in Satana of Nashik district.
Patil said the main accused, Samir Patil, was a member of the NCP youth wing and headed the Nashik unit also.
He said police did not hesitate to take action against him given his political status.
Patil has been thrown out of the party," he added.
Patil and nine others were arrested in connection with the case. While the others got bail, Patil is in judicial custody. A charge sheet will be filed in this case soon, he added.
